[edit] Description

Podcasting is a capture of the audio output of a computer. These are typically used to inform others about a topic.

[edit] Essential Requirements

In order to capture a podcast, you will need computer with audio capture software and a podcasting site to deliver the final product

[edit] Equipment

The only equipment needed is a computer, headphones, and microphone.

[edit] Software

There are many different tools for capturing podcasts. These vary in capability and price. Our recommendation is Audacity.

  • Audacity - A commonly used audio file recorder/editor software. It is cross platform and free.
  • GarageBand - Part of the iLife suite from Apple, GarageBand is a great podcast creation tool that is included with every mac
  • FeedBurner - Tool to track your podcast and RSS subscriptions, including iTunes.
  • Podomatic - A simple website that allows a user to easily (and inexpensively) upload and syndicate their podcasts
  • Callburner - An effective tool for recording podcasts via Skype. This works well for geographically dispersed participants.
  • Levelator - Tool that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations. Like a compressor, normalizer and limiter all in one!
  • MP3 Skype Recorder v.3.1 - Tool that records your Skype calls. Great for recording online interviews.
