Description

Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is a Free web application that educators can use to create effective online learning sites.

Moodle is an open-source program that can be loaded on a Web server. It requires PHP to run as well as any SQL database such as My SQL. It can be run on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

While Moodle has a standard package, it can be expanded and customized with modules, blocks, and themes.

Essential Requirements

Moodle is a Web-based application and requires a Web browser to interface with it.

Equipment

The only equipment needed is a computer, smart phone, or iPod with Web browser.

Software

To download and install Moodle as an administrator, you would go to Moodle.org.

For access to the University of Wyoming Extension Moodle site, go to http://www.wyomingextension.org/moodle/. The University of Wyoming Extension is currently running Moodle version 2.04. Knowing the version number is important if you wish to recommend modules or blocks. Contact Stan Skrabut for more information.
