Microsoft Lync Installation Instructions for University of Wyoming Extension

The tricky thing about writing these instructions is that they change slightly based on operating systems.

These instructions are for staff, educators, and specialists out in the field using a PC Computer.

Step 1: Determine whether your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit.

a. Click the Start menu button and right-click Computer (or My Computer).

b. Click Properties.

c. If running Windows XP, the information is located in the System section of System Properties. If the line stating the level of Windows XP is followed by “x64 Edition”, the computer is running Windows XP 64-bit. If it does not say “x64 Edition”, then the computer is running Windows XP 32-bit. The service pack version loaded is stated in this section as well.

d. If running Windows Vista or Windows 7, the Windows edition section contains the information about which operating system is running, as well as which Service Pack level is loaded. In the System section, the System type will show if the computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.

Step 2: Choose the right file to download. Highlight the link provided and copy it (CTRL-C)

Step 3: Log into WyoWeb at

Step 4: Click on the WyoSecure button from the menu bar.

Step 5: Paste (CTRL-V) the link into the Browse field provided. Ensure there are no spaces at the end of the file name. Click on the Browse button.

Step 6: Select Run program when prompted. Note: Ensure MS Outlook is turned off before doing so.

Step 7: Enter your email address when prompted, e.g.,

Step 8: Enter uwyo\ and username when prompted, e.g., uwyo\skrabut

Step 9: Enter password when prompted. Note it will be the same password used to log onto WyoWeb.

Step 10: Do a contact search for Skrabut, mouse over result, click on Plus (+) sign, and then select all contacts.
