Pin – "A pin is an image added to Pinterest." [1]

Board - "A board is a set of pins. A board can be created on any topic... You can add as many pins to a board as you want." [2]

Repin - "A repin is adding an image you find while browsing Pinterest to your own board." [3]

Ideas for using Pinterest to Support Informal Learning

  • Sharing Ideas – You can create a board with pins on topics from personal interests, to educational interests, to work interests. You can then share these pins with others.
  • Review pins for inspiration - By following others, you can gather inspiration from pins they share.
  • Find great books to read - Follow readers whom you trust and learn about new books.
  • Find and collect tutorials - Looking for instructions on the latest technology, make a collection and share it with others.
  • Share you blog with others - Use Pinterest to share other resources your are creating such as a blog.
  • Collect resources to improve your profession - Find, collect, organize, and share resources that will help improve your profession.
  • Use Pinterest as a photojournalist - Highlight your photos as you document the world or your profession.

Ideas for using Pinterest for Business

  • Create boards to highlight groups of merchandise – Create boards with pins unique to a particular topic, e.g., kitchen ware, cheeses, skirts, etc.
  • Hold a contest - Ask followers to create boards showing how they use your product, and choose the best example.
  • Create a video board - Link back to your YouTube videos showing how to use your products.
  • Incorporate the Pin It button - Add the Pin It button on your site to encourage adding your content to Pinterest.
  • Capture your brands in the wild - If you come across your brand in an image, then pin it.
