Creating categories for your blog

Categories are how you organize your blog. Categories help group posts of a similar theme. This helps readers find specific blogs for follow only a theme that interests them. Categories can be created when you make a post or from the dashboard menu. Each method is explained below.

Creating a category from the dashboard

If you know that you are going to place your posts within specific categories, you can create the categories ahead of time. However, you can also create categories when you need them. Here are the procedures for creating caetgories from the dashboard.

1. Log in as an administrator for your site, and go to the dashboard.

2. Click on Posts and then Categories from the left hand menu.

3. Insert a category name, select a category to place it under or leave it under the parent level, provide a description, and click on the Add New Category button.

Once a category is entered, it can be added to a post as it is created.

Creating a category within a post

If you are adding a new post, you can and should assign it to a category. You can create a new category as you need it. Here are the procedures:

1. While creating a new post, click on the + Add New Category from the right hand menu.

2. 3. Insert a category name, select a category to place it under or leave it under the parent level, and click on the Add New Category button.

The category will automatically be assigned to the post.
