People

People is the place where you can update your profile, find communities of interest or communities of practice, find colleagues, see the activity on eXtension.org, and see numbers as they relate to eXtension.org. Some of these functions are more detailed than others. In those cases, additional pages of instructions will be provided.

Here is a video with an overview of what you can find in People.

My Profile

Before you can do anything of significance on eXtension.org, you must first create an account and update your profile. Here are the procedures related to your profile:

Communities

Communities is one of the places where learning occurs among like minded professionals. These communities are focused around communities of interest, communities of practice, or institutions. You can find one of these communities from the Communities tab on http://people.extension.org.

Here is a video explaining more about communities.

Activity

Basically, on the Activity page, you can see a summary of individual activity across eXtension.org. You access the Activity page by logging into http://people.extension.org and selecting the Activity Tab. There are three primary sections to this portion of the site: activity home page, by location, and by community. Here are the highlights of each.

Activity Home

The Activity Home page is the main page for the Activity Tab, and is the first page you will see when clicking on the tab.

Extension9.png

On this page there are four primary areas: activity for the past week and recent activity across the entire site, and activity this past week and browse recent activity within your communities; these last two are relating to you.

Under Activity This Past Week, you can see a list of new users and active users. Recent Activity provides a list of the most recent event, specifically, who did what.

On the right side of the screen, there is a list of Activity Related to You. The first item is Activity This Past Week where you can see a list of active users and their activity from your location.

Finally, you can drill down and see the recent activity within each of your communities.

by Location

When you click on the by Location link from the any of the Activity pages, you will see a list of physical locations providing extension support.

When you click on one of the locations, you will see a list of the most recent activity by members of that location.

by Community

When you click on the by Community link from the any of the Activity pages, you will see a list of eXtension Communities of Practice as well as User-contributed Communities.

When you click on one of the communities, you will see a list of the most recent activity by members of that community.

Numbers

The Numbers page shows the aggregate activity on the eXtension.org site such as number of people, number of communities, number of places, and number of agreements. The page can be accessed from the http://people.extension.org by clicking on the Numbers Tab. There are four primary navigation links on the page: Numbers home, by Location, by Position, and by Community or Institution.

Numbers home

The Numbers Home page shows the activity across the entire eXtension.org site. There are four distinct parts: People, Communities, Places, and Agreements. Additionally, there are links to a published content report, which shows the links to Communities of Practice and the number of articles, FAQs, and News posted. By drilling down on each of the CoP names, you can see a graphical representation of the data over time. More information can also be found on page performance and eXtension activity by going to the http://data.extension.org/ link.

In the first major section (People), you can see reported numbers for total users, new users within last month, active users within last month and represented positions. Different items will allow you to drill down for more details.

The second section (Communities) shows number of institutions, eXtension CoPs, and User-contributed Communities. For each of these categories, both the total category and total members are displayed.

The third section (Places) includes total states as well as total counties, parishes and related items.

The final section (Agreements) indicates the number of people who accepted the contributor agreement, did not accept the agreement, and have agreements pending.

by Location

By clicking on the by Location link, you can drill down further by selecting a state or territory. Once you get to the data for the state, you will see the same information displayed on the Numbers home page only filtered for the location.

by Position

By selecting the by Position link, you can then select from 13 unique positions. Once you get to the data for the position, you will see the same information displayed on the Numbers home page only filtered for the specific position.

by Community or Institution

Finally, by selecting the by Community or Institution link, you can then select from eXtension Communities of Practice, Institutions, or User-contributed Communities. Once you get to the data for the community, you will see the same information displayed on the Numbers home page only filtered for the specific community or institution.
